Within a week of its publication, Morgan Chua’s Tiananmen has commanded three reviews in the media. Hindustan Times features the book in its lead review and says Chua “offers a tongue-in-cheek depiction of the period that led up to the massacre”. The Business Line’s weekend magazine BLink features an excerpt from Chua’s preface and carries some of the cartoons.
Live Mint says the cartoons are “curated with imagination”, and pronounces this verdict: “Executed in black and white, often with a wild frenzy of strokes and sharp lines, these images speak more eloquently than many written records of the events—one of the reasons that makes this historic edition a collector’s item.”
