A Tigress in Mumbai—24 June 2022

‘A book like no other … I read it with a mixture of reverence and critical outlook,’ writes Meena Kandasamy in her review of Land, Guns, Caste, Woman: The Memoir of Lapsed Revolutionary in The Hindu. Gita Ramaswamy’s book has lit a spark. Born into the conservatism of a brahmin household, Gita’s rebellious heart led her to the Naxalite movement. She witnessed the horrors of the Emergency, left the party disillusioned, and ended up joining dalit labourers in their struggles against bondage and landlessness.

Join the writers Jerry Pinto and Pradnya Daya Pawar in conversation with Gita on the twenty-seventh anniversary of the declaration of the Emergency. Actor Naseeruddin Shah will present a reading from Land, Guns, Caste, Woman.
