A Part Apart wins Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay NIF Book Prize 2024

Navayana is proud to announce that Ashok Gopal’s A Part Apart: The Life and Thought of B.R. Ambedkar has been awarded the New India Foundation’s Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay Book Prize 2024. A Part Apart is the result of ten years of intense research, it is a sprawling biography that presents a candid portrait of the most consequential Indian political thinker. Gopal read all the books published by Ambedkar and on Ambedkar in English and Marathi, to write the most complete story of the man yet told.

The NIF prize is given to the best non-fiction book on modern India with high-quality research and writing. Gopal will be felicitated on 14 December at an event at the Bangalore Literature Festival, and he will receive a prize of Rs 15 lakh.
