Shailaja Paik on Ambedkari Jalse
Shailaja Paik is on a tour of Delhi. The star academic who won the MacArthur Genius fellowship in 2024 for her work in The Vulgarity of Caste: Dalits, Sexuality, and Humanity in Modern India, will be at IIC, New Delhi, discussing her book and the vital power of Ambedkari Jalse as an artform. She will be in conversation with historian Prathama Banerjee. All are invited.

Shailaja Paik will also be speaking at IIT Delhi’s Critical Philosophy of Caste & Race conference, which will be held from 16–18 January 2026. This year’s CPCR commemorates the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Durban World Conference Against Racism 2001, when Dalit organizations struggled to have caste-discrimination recognized as a prohibition in the UN charter.
